Texas dam reno completed Acres completed a major renovation at the Max Starcke Dam in Central Texas. Fifty-year-old bear-trap type flood gates were replaced by 10 new steel crest gates. The dam is a critical component in the Highland Lakes flood control system. Flood gate seminar Experience gained at Max Starcke (see above) and many other recent renovation projects will be shared with others at a seminar at Niagara Falls on Friday, October 24, 2003. New associates Two well-established power industry representation firms are working with the Acres office in Canton, Ohio to promote the interests of the Acres Thermal/T&D Business Unit in the US. Competitive Management Associates (CMA) will cover Ohio and Western Pennsylvania, while Mellinger & Associates will cover Kentucky and Indiana. Meanwhile in Canada, a strategic association has been formed with The Industrial Company (TIC). TIC is a Colorado-based heavy construction firm with an Alberta subsidiary. The association will strengthen the position of Acres and Acres Parsons E&C in the EPC market. Akosombo retrofit nearly complete At the Akosombo GS, in Ghana, Acres returned Unit 5 to the Volta River Authority, rewound, renovated, upgraded and ready for commercial production. One more unit remains in order to complete an upgrading and modernization program which began in 1988. |
