Acres International - Innovations (Summer 2003)
Advanced baggage screeningAdvanced baggage screening at 89 Canadian airports

The contract for project management, planning, logistics and engineering services for the deployment and installation of Explosive Detection Systems (EDS) has been awarded to a team of engineers and architects led by Marshall Macklin Monaghan, with Acres International as a member.

Acres first task was to develop a framework master schedule and individual deployment schedules for each of the 89 airports. It was important that the schedules should be flexible enough to accommodate local variations, and should also be capable of being incorporated into existing construction programs.

Acres is also taking responsibility for EDS installations at 39 airports, in Atlantic Canada and British Columbia. At 22 of these airports, renovations and upgrades will be required to meet CATSA requirements. With ten offices in these two regions Acres is well placed to provide hands-on assistance to airport administrators during the upgrading process.

CATSA will fully comply with the operational deadlines mandated by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) for EDS installations at the designated Canadian airports. In designing the new equipment and procedures, care has been taken to create a consistent look and feel at each airport, so that the traveling public will quickly feel comfortable with the higher levels of security.
